October 2001 Email News Update
Wedding Reminder
Ron Talbot & Theresa Bandula (on 6675 Vireo Way) are getting married on Saturday October 6th (1:00 pm to 6:00 pm or later) in their backyard. Expect live music and a lot of cars parked on the street in the neighborhood. If you have any questions or concerns Theresa or Ron asked to be called. Also feel free to call Denise Holden as well.
Congratulations to both.
New Board Members
Please welcome Owen Kittredge and Gail Sillers to the board. Owen will be Secretary and Gail will be Director at Large and chairperson for the Architectural Committee.
Also a great thanks to retiring members Bill Kenney and Mike Stewart for all their work in the past!
We had a good turn out for the WWHO Annual Meeting. For those that missed it, here's what happened:
- Battalion Chief Tony Corrado and Capt. Lawrence Bettencourt of Placer County Fire Department gave an overview of the plan for the new fire station at Laird, Cavitt Stallman Road. The entire station will be replaced, using portables until the new station is built. The new station will be about twice the previous size and will have much improved visibility to Auburn-Folsom Rd.
- Gail Sillers' committee on the house footprint and related CC&R topics has submitted their proposed changes to an attorney for a legal review. Key among changes is a maximum size structure tied to lot size. Note, this is a committee proposal, not new CC+R's. It only becomes effective when voted in by homeowners. The change will requires that 2/3rds of the community approve it. Stay tuned for more as it becomes available.
- An Arborist, Kevin Kemper, talked about the care and feeding of oak trees. We'll post write ups of this information for everyone shortly.
- Bill Furnas' presented the latest on common area improvements (Bridge, Fire Protection, Picnic Bench on Sunset Hill, Poison Oak eradication, mapping project and more.)
- A Common Area guide and map handout was available at the meeting.
The minutes from the meeting will be posted on line at the Walden Woods Web site in the next few weeks.
Block Party - Great time by
all!
We had a great crowd on Saturday evening, Sept 29th at the end of Calypte Lane. Cindy Fuzie pulled off another terrific Walden Woods Block party.
Moon Walk: After the block party, the first Moon Walk through the Common Area took place. About 30 people showed up at Bill Furnas' home for a moon-lit walk through our private woodlands and ended up at the picnic table on Sunset hill for Zinfandels, Cabernets, Chinese Mooncakes and Greek Tyropita.
Check out the pictures on the web page.

Buy
wine and support the Red Cross
This week I'll auction off up to a case of our 1997/98 Zinfandel wine and send the proceeds to the Red Cross. If you are interested call me at 652-9158 or send me an email message with the number of bottles and amount willing to bid for each. Person with the largest number of bottles also wins two Doe Mill Vineyard glasses (never before available outside of the Hall / Isom families.) Quality is guaranteed - I'll replace any bottle you don't like.
Current bid stands at 20.83 per bottle. Final bids must be in by Friday, Oct5th. I'll let you know if someone has outbid yours.
Garage Sale Coming Soon!
Last minute reminder to clean out the garage, closets and your kids rooms. Stephanie Kenney and the Garage Sale committee have set up the annual Walden Woods Garage Sale for October 13th. And like last year there will be a Monday pickup by the Cancer Research Foundation of leftovers.
The rain date is Saturday, October 20th.
Folsom Lake Mutual Water Company Annual Meeting - Nov 13th
FLMWC members annual meeting will be November 13th at the Granite Bay Library meeting room at 6475 Douglas Blvd. Starting time is 7:30 PM. Key topics on the agenda:
- Board member elections (one year terms)
- Year in review
- Financial statement and hopefully a budget
Alan Johnston also wants to remind us all that now with fall coming on and the weather cooling off, it's time to review and reduce your sprinkler usage.
Common Area Work:
Maps: The latest maps were handed out at the WWHO Annual meeting and they're on the web. Check them out at http://www.waldenwoods.org/waldenwoods/page2.html. A copy will be included in the November distribution of the WWHO Directory.
Common Area Guide: We have created Common Area guide (word document) containing information on the common area (recommend pathways, sites, embedded map) is on the WW web page.
Improvements: This month Common Area Improvement Volunteer day focused on preparing and cleaning out the culverts for winter and improving small pond areas near the Center Trail footbridge.
Common Area Report: Over 18 hours were put in to prepare the annual Common Area Report and presentation for the association. This report will be available on the web shortly.
Come pitch in a hand - the next Common Area Improvement Volunteer days are Saturday, Oct 13th and 27th. Show up at Bill Furnas' house (8345 Walden Woods Way) at 9AM.
Wine News - a personal
note from Guy
Well, we stomped and pressed and drank. For the few of you that have not been subjected to my passions on the grape, here's to let you know we have a Zinfandel vineyard up near Chico. Except for a ton a grapes we keep, all the grapes go to the De Loach winery in Sonoma. Last month the Chico Enterprise Record newspaper ran an article on the vineyard. Check it out!
Also, we took our wine to China for a tasting and dinner on the Great Wall. Here's a photo!

Printing of next WWHO Directory
The new Walden Woods Directory will be available imminently. We now have the new board members listed and are just waiting for the Water Board elections so that we can include the correct names on their board. That puts the printing in second half of November. If you have a last minute change to your entry in the directory, rush it to me.
What information is included in the directory?
- Owners First and Last name(s)
- Children living at home in parens
- Street address, lot number
- Fax and normal phone numbers
- email address(es)
Also towards the end of the directory is a list of kids interested in baby sitting, pet sitting, house sitting, yard work, and tutoring.
If you need a 2001 Walden Woods Phone Directory, contact Denese Holden.

News Updates:
If you have something you would like to include in the WW News Update, drop me a note.

Do you know ...
Very recently cell phone coverage in the Walden Woods area has significantly increased, at least for the companies the Hall household uses (AT&T and Verizon). For years we used to have a signal strength of one bar, but now is three or four. Furthermore, the strength when driving along Auburn Folsom has significantly improved.
This distribution is going out to people on the Walden Woods email information update list. If you would like to be dropped from this list, reply back indicating so and Guy Hall will personally remove your name from this list. If you know someone who would like to add their name to this distribution list, forward this message to them and have send their information to directory@waldenwoods.org.
