WALDEN WOODS OF GRANITE BAY
May 2001 Email News Update

Easter Update:
The Easter Egg hunt was a great success with a turn out of 30 kids from the neighborhood. Did you know there were that many even living in Walden Woods. A group photo of most (have you ever tried to get 30 kids to pose for a picture?) can be viewed at: http://www.waldenwoods.org/waldenwoods/eeh13.jpg
The hunt was organized by Susan Sindelar and Rachel Kenney (http://www.waldenwoods.org/waldenwoods/eeh4.jpg) and was only possible the help of another 6 to 8 more Walden Woods teens - (though think some may have been in their 20s) Check out the group teen picture at: http://www.waldenwoods.org/waldenwoods/eeh1.jpg
More pictures can be found on the Walden Woods web site.
Thanks! to Rachel Kenney and Sue Sindelar for organizing the hunt!

Block Party:
Calling all barbeques! Cindy Fuzie (652-8549) has set the next Walden Woods Block party for Saturday, June 2nd at 5:00. This time the locale will be the end of Mimus Lane. We'll have the basics - hamburgers, hotdogs, chips and sodas. Bring your utensils and anything you'd like to share, barbeque or drink. Prepare to party!

Internet Connections:
Are you dissatisfied with your 26K dial up connection to the internet? If you're in the Woodrock area, you can get cable modems (ask Chris McAfee for info). Otherwise it's standard dial up, ISDN or satellite - none of which are very attractive. We're looking for a volunteer or two to lead a drive to get DSL in Walden Woods and Los Logos. If you've got the desire and time, please volunteer for this and get Walden Woods out of the Stone Age!

Common Area Work:
Bill Furnas and his gang are still working hard at improving our 27+ acre private wood reserve. The wild flowers are blooming (click to see a picture with Bill enjoying the wildflowers.)
- Fire Fuel Abatement: A contractor has cleared ladder fuel from a 5 acre horseshoe area around old Wood Rock area. This is the first of five sections to be cleared on a five-year cyclical plan
- Foot bridges: The first of four foot bridges are up to span the creeks leading to the picnic area. Final decomposed granite work has begun in the picnic area for the picnic table pad and the foot paths.
- Fire roads: The fire roads have been kept cleared of brush and weeds.
- Poison oak: Some poison oak abatement has been done, both by volunteers and the contractor.
The next Common Area Improvement Volunteer days are May 12 and May 26. Show up at Bill Furnas' house (8345 Walden Woods Way) at 9AM.
Firewood from the fire-prevention brush clearing is still available. Please contact the common area chairman, Bill Furnas if you wish to obtain some of the firewood.

Good Water News:
Sacramento Bee Headline: GRANITE BAY TO GET WATER PRESSURE BOOST PLACER COUNTY AGENCY DIRECTORS APPROVE LOOMIS BASIN-KING ROAD PIPELINE. Published on 04/19/2001, Page N1 Neighbors Placer section
The Sacramento Bee reports that the Placer County Water Agency awarded a $705K project to run a second water pipe to Granite Bay developments including Placer Canyon, Los Lagos and Walden Woods. Water pressure in the Granite Bay developments will increase with the new pipeline. Don Reighley, director of technical services for the water agency, said the pipeline is akin to adding a second straw to draw more water from a glass. This is in addition to the booster pump station installed last year.
