WALDEN WOODS OF GRANITE BAY

February 2003 Email News Update

News on News

Another short note, due to all the standard reasons for being busy.  I hope your calendars are full and friends plentiful.

Neighbor to Neighbor

This section is for broadcasts by homeowners offering something to their neighbors or asking a question.  This is not a debate or discussion forum (which we actually have on our Walden Woods Web site - click here.)  All items submitted for this newsletter are subject to my arbitrary discretion for inclusion and editing.

·        Sandra Hall (guess whose daughter) is interested in babysitting children in the neighborhood.  She turns 13 in March and is in the 7th grade.  She can sit for children as young as 3 years old and as late at 11PM at night.

·        Free for the taking:  We (Guy & Victoria) have a plastic sandbox for free to the first person asking for it.  It’s in the shape of a turtle with a cover and about 3 feet across.  Good for young kids.

·        Also free for the taking:  We have several desktops with side supports & hardware that we no longer need & would like to offer free.  They are well used, but still serviceable.  They are white laminate put-together types.    We also have a white desk, also white laminate that measures 30x 64 inches.  The white desk is already assembled for anyone who wants it right away--or can be broken down flat for storage.  Finally, there is a light blue rolling upholstered office chair with upholstered sides which can be yours for the asking. First come/first serve.  They are all available until Saturday morning.  Call 652-5025.

·        Sept 28, Annual meeting

We’ve posted the minutes from the Fall Annual Homeowner meeting on the web.

Boulder Road – New Speed Limits:

Denese Holden attended the Placer County Board of Supervisors hearing on Jan. 21st to witness and address the Boards action regarding the posting of a speed limit on Boulder Road and Twin Rocks Road.

The Board voted to post the speed limit on Boulder Road and Twin Rocks Rd to 30 mph.  This is great news, because before now the speed for Boulder was 55mph!  After the hearing Denese spoke to the California Highway Patrol officer who performed the speed study and conducted a portion of the survey of neighbors.  He said that speed signs will go up within the next 30 days and that the CHP will be vigorously patrolling this area for speeders for a while after the new speed signs go in.  He said to be sure to get the word out to the neighbors about the new speed limits and to be careful- they will be writing tickets for speeders!  Please be careful and remember that new speed limit and be respectful of your neighbors who live on those streets.

Thanks to Denese for keeping us informed!

Common Area:

Bridges: Bill Furnas and the common area crew built up the second bridge and approaches (on the Walden Creek Trail).  Check the photos of these folks at work: Bill Brown, Thomas Hall, Bill Furnas, Denese Holden/Al Johnston, the crew, the crew again and your’s truly.

The Scouts helped out on the bridge as well – pictures of the Scouts at work in the next newsletter.

Common Area Trails – I’ve been out in the common area in the middle of some of the recent storms and the trails have held up wonderfully.  Our common area is now a nice area for walks year-round.  The trails are solid, no problem with mud and scene is still not only attractive but quite different than the summer.  If you’re looking for a few minutes to get out for a walk, try the common area.  Maps can be found on the web page or in your latest directory.

Fire Brush Removal – Take a look in the common area and you’ll some great results from the fire fuel abatement work that took place in the common area.  This year’s effort focused in the middle and western sections of the common area.

Firewood Available – Firewood is still available from the fire fuel abatement work.  These pieces are available to any homeowner. If you need access by truck into the common area, check with Bill Furnas for a key to the gate.

Join in and help out - the next Common Area Improvement Volunteer days are Saturdays, March 1st , 15th and 29th. Show up at Bill Furnas' house (8345 Walden Woods Way) at 9AM.
