Halloween Watch Volunteers Needed

Gail Sillers is looking volunteers to help out the watch.  This has become a real Walden Woods tradition.  It’s a wonderful way to help make Walden Woods a great place for trick or treat activities for the children and nice way to meet your neighbors.  Help insure our kids have a safe Halloween this year.

Gail needs 2 more volunteers for the 7PM and 8PM shifts.  Having personally done this myself, this is a great way to meet your neighbors, have a bit of fun and keep Halloween safe for the neighborhood kids.

Please call Gail at 652-3342 for more information.

Front Entrance Committee Formed

A committee of neighbors was formed to create a plan for repairs and improvements to the front entrance.  The focus will be on repairs to the irrigation system and any updates necessary to keep the front entrance attractive.  Owen Kittredge is the committee chair with Les Walshaw, Bill Findley joining in.    Anyone interested to help form this plan for the Board is welcomed – just call Owen at 652-9715.

FLMWC Annual Meeting – November 20th

The Lake Mutual Water Company Annual Meeting will be 7PM, Wednesday, November 20th at the Granite Bay Library.  At this meeting, we will elect a new board.  The water company board is comprised of neighborhood volunteers.  We are looking for people to serve on the board.  Board members meet on a monthly basis (see WW web calendar for dates and times).  If you are interested, please contact Alan Johnston at 652-2088.

Common Area:

Improvements:  The Common Area gang has been working to establish the easement between lots 54 and 102 – not done yet, but good progress is being made.  Ted Hatch has also been actively working (brushing and spraying) 3 or 4 acres on the east end of common area.  Thanks a bunch Ted!

Join in and help out - the next Common Area Improvement Volunteer days are Saturday, November 16th and 30th.   Show up at Bill Furnas' house (8345 Walden Woods Way) at 9AM.   It’s a fun and valuable way to spend some time with your neighbors.

Wild Flower Planting – I’ve been asked if Walden Woods is going to do another wild flower planting event for the kids, and the answer is YES!  Bill tells me we’ll do this a bit later this time after we get some rains in.  More information to follow.

Walden Woods Garage Sale

Looks like the Walden Woods Garage Sale was a hit.  This year was the first time our family participated and sold off a bunch and donated the rest.  Thanks to again to Stephanie Kenney for organizing this annual event.

Architectural Review Committee

Each year following the annual meeting in September, a new Architectural Review Committee is formed and serve for a term of one year.  Our thanks to the following homeowners for volunteering their time and talents on this committee:  New members Jeanne Gewalt, Carol Kittredge, and Stephanie Kenney (chair) join reappointed members: Brian Holden and Dick Immekus.   Please feel free to call or e-mail any committee members with any questions you may have.  Applications for Architectural Review can be forwarded to any committee member.

A special thank you for outgoing Architectural Review Committee members Monty Hornbeck, Bill Kenney, and Gail Sillers for their efforts these past 2 years as volunteer members of this committee.

Each month we’ll include the most recent Architectural Reviews completed or in process for improvements in Walden Woods.  An update on projects reviewed and approved to date in October:

Additional Board of Director Actions:  Re: Architectural Review.

This is to report action undertaken by the board of directors regarding a Walden Woods homeowner’s deliberate and repeated disregard of a requirement for architectural review for a project covered by the Architectural Review (AR) Manual dated January 2001.  The homeowner proceeded and completed the project without approval, ignoring the association’s attempts to communicate regarding the matter both before and after the fact. This being the situation, the board of directors, with great reluctance, levied a $100 Special Non-Compliance Assessment on the property per the “Architectural Enforcement Policy” outlined in the AR Manual.

Directory Update Plan for 2003:

Here is my rough timeline for updating the Walden Woods Directory for the January distribution.  It’s a slow process because it’s all volunteer work.

Now –  Nov 20th                     Collect changes to names / addresses from last printing.  If you already sent a change to me it should be incorporated, but you’re welcome to send a reminder.

Now – Nov 20th                      Review changes to general info section on the directory.  If you want to review the latest draft, you can go to the web and review it there.  Most names and addresses have been removed on this on-line version for safety.

Nov 20th – Dec 10th              Final edits, include new Water Board Directors, printing.

Dec 10th – Jan 1st                  Folding, covers, inserts, stapling, etc.

Jan 1st – Jan 31st                   Distributions
