WALDEN WOODS OF GRANITE BAY

October 2002 Email News Update

Neighbor to Neighbor

This section is for broadcasts by homeowners offering something to their neighbors or asking a question.  This is not a debate or discussion forum (which we actually have on our Walden Woods Web site - click here.)  All items submitted for this newsletter are subject to my arbitrary discretion for inclusion and editing (but mostly an excuse for having forgotten something!)

** Nothing to pass along **

If you send me an item, tell me if you want your email address or phone number included (one or the other or both please.)

Board News

The Annual Home Owners meeting was held Sunday September 29th at Les Walshaw’s house.  Thanks Les and Gloria!

Owen is getting the minutes of the meeting typed up, but in the interim here are some unofficial bullet points:

Ø       Stephanie Kenney was elected to the board Stephanie will have the Director at Large responsibilities which includes chairing the Architectural committee.  Gail Sillers has now taken on the VP responsibilities.

Ø       Nancy Whitmer has retired from the board and we owe Nancy Thanks! for the great help over the last several years!

Ø       Denese Holden’s was re-elected and will continue serving as President.

Ø       A Safety Committee was formed with an initial look at how to reduce the speeding in the Walden Woods.  Call Denese if you would like to join this committee.

Ø       An advisory motion to the board from the floor passed overwhelmingly to revitalize the front entrance with a special $20 assessment / per year / lot for two years.  The board has since formed a Front Entrance Committee to review the situation and determine options.

Ø       There has been some vandalism in front entrance and common area.  If you see any vandalism taking place please call the Sheriff (Loomis substation 652-2400.)

Ø       Paper copies of the new CC&R’s were handed out at the annual meeting.   The CCR’s are also online here.

Earlier today, I sent out, under separate cover, a letter from Denese Holden as the Walden Woods President which provides more information about the meeting and the Board.  The letter will also be posted on the web.

Halloween Watch Volunteers Needed

Gail Sillers is looking volunteers to help out the watch.  This has become a real Walden Woods tradition.  It’s a wonderful way to help make Walden Woods a great place for trick or treat activities for the children and nice way to meet your neighbors.  Help insure our kids have a safe Halloween this year.   Please call Gail at 652-3342 for more information.

Lots Adjacent To Walden Woods

Brian Holden reports that the lots at the two Walden Woods entrances are actually not part of Walden Woods.  The back lots have been certified to be build-able.  This puts a buildable lot on the corner of Walden Woods Way and Boulder, adjacent to Lisa and Jared Bogert’s house 8595 Walden Woods Way (lot 97).  A buildable second lot is on Boulder, adjacent to Mark and Sandy Johnson’s house.  These two lots received a certificate of compliance from the Placer County Planning Department and can be built on.  The other corner lot adjacent to Ken & Claudia Moore’s house is marked down as part of the open space for set of up to 8 houses surrounding the horse stables.

If you’re interested in activities relating to this topic, contact any one from the Walden Woods Board.

Walden Woods Web

If you haven’t done so already, check out the neighborhood events calendar on the Walden Woods Web page.  If you’re looking for the specifics on a neighborhood event, check the calendar.  When you have an item of interest put it up there.

FLMWC Water Billing Delayed

The computer that manages the billing for Folsom Lake Mutual Water Company has met its demise, so your current bill will be delayed.  You will most likely receive a bill for a 3 month period when the computer is replaced.

FLMWC Annual Meeting

The Lake Mutual Water Company Annual Meeting will be in November or December.  At this meeting, we will elect a new board.  The water company board is comprised of neighborhood volunteers.  We are looking for people to serve on the board.  Board members meet on a monthly basis (see WW web calendar for dates and times).  If you are interested, please contact Alan Johnston at 652-2088.

Common Area:

This is a marvelous time of year to walk the common area.    Only minutes away and your in our own private woodland.  You can find on the web a map of trails in the common area.

Walden Woods Garage Sale

Here’s the hassle-free way selling off all the extra stuff you’ve accumulated over the years.  Stephanie Kenney is preparing for the annual Walden Woods Garage Sale.  The Home Owner association will pay for and place advertising in the local papers and Penny Saver.  Several close neighbors often join together so they share the time sitting out with the merchandise or just share time together.

Date:               Saturday, October 12th
Time:
9AM – 1PM

Stephanie has made the signs, but would like find volunteers to help put them out Friday afternoon.  If you can help or need more information, please call her at 652-5025.

While not required, it would be helpful if you could reply back to let us know if you’re thinking of being part of the Garage Sale – just to get a rough household count.

Big Thanksto one of our local teenagers, Chris Hibbert for delivering the flyers about the Garage Sale to all our home early Saturday morning.

Architectural Reviews

The past year has been an active one for improvements in Walden Woods.  Thirty-two (32) projects, representing approximately 25% of the Walden Woods homeowners, have been submitted and approved since September 2001.  The types of work have included new pools, house painting, re-roofing, new and reconstructed decks, patios, and porches.  The list also includes new sheds, concrete work, fencing, tree removal, windows, and various new or renovated landscaping projects.  The full list of projects is attached.

Thanks are in order for all the members of the Architectural Review Committee for their many hours of volunteering their time and efforts to making this process effective and expedient:  Gail Sillers (former chair), Dick Immekus, Brian Holden, Bill Kenney, and Monty Hornbeck.

Here is my rough timeline for updating the Walden Woods Directory for the January distribution.  It’s a slow process because it’s all volunteer work.

Now – Nov 20th                      Review changes to general info section on the directory.  If you want to review the latest draft, you can go to the web and review it there.  Most names and addresses have been removed on this on-line version for safety.

Nov 20th – Dec 10th              Final edits, printing.

Dec 10th – Jan 1st                  Folding, covers, inserts, stapling, etc.

Jan 1st – Jan 31st                   Distributions

Directory Updates:

If you didn't get a 2002 Walden Woods Phone Directory, contact Denese Holden at 652-0856.

Get out your pen to make these changes / corrections received in the last two months:

Ø       Mark and Sandy Johnson’s phone number has changed to 652-8784

Ø       Gail and Daryn Crawford are our new neighbors on 8685 Woodrock Way, (660-9356) moving into the Mahar’s former house.  Welcome them to Walden Woods!

Other changes / corrections received since the directory was published in November and included in prior newsletters:

·         Stop by and say hello to our new neighbors at the end of Walden Woods Way.  Lisa and Jared Bogert have moved into the home at 8595 Walden Woods Way (lot 97).  Their home phone is 652-4519.

·         Catalina Magdaleno has sold her house at 6490 Vireo Way (lot 4) to Susan and Tom Hall who have moved here from Truckee – no more snow in the winter!  Stop by and welcome them to Walden Woods.  Their number is: 660-0184  That places three Hall families in the neighbor.  No, none related.

·         If you hadn’t heard, we lost a wonderful neighbor – Stan Faustman. Stan and Marion have been Walden Woods neighbors for over 20 years (8305 Parus Way) and have contributed much to our community and we’ll miss him and his wit greatly.

·         Say hi to our new neighbors, John & Jeanne Gewalt who have moved into the neighborhood, at 8220 Parus Way.  They visited the other Gewalt’s last year and liked the neighborhood.

·         Jeff & Barbara Rogers bought the Schulze’s house at 8265 Walden Woods Way.

·         Greg & Sheri Bomhoff phone number is: 660-0531

·         Please welcome Dave & Judy Vitton to the neighborhood.  They have moved into the former Killingsworth residence at 8190 Parus Way.  Their phone is 652-4396.

·

·         If you see Terri Ryland, ask her about her new exciting job with Government Financial Strategies, Inc, a firm specializing in school district financing (ranging from bond issuances, leases, other long-term financing, developer fee studies, etc.)  She’s working downtown (have her people contact your people and do lunch!)

·         We’re loosing one of our neighbors.  In case you haven't noticed the increased activity at 8220 Parus (lot 20), Mary Low Stone and family have moved.  She sent a nice note saying they enjoyed their time here, but the Ooley’s who rent the house from them decided it was time to sell.  The entry in your directory is under Ooley.

·         Please welcome Gregory & Sheri Bomhoff  at 6620 Stonehedge Ct as new neighbors.

·         Please welcome Thomas & Maureen Higelin at  8665 Woodrock Way as new neighbors.
