WALDEN WOODS OF GRANITE BAY

September 2002 Email News Update

Neighbor to Neighbor

This section is for broadcasts by homeowners offering something to their neighbors or asking a question.  This is not a debate or discussion forum (which we actually have on our Walden Woods Web site - click here.)  All items submitted for this newsletter are subject to my arbitrary discretion for inclusion and editing (but mostly an excuse for having forgotten something!)

** Nothing to pass along **

If you send me an item, tell me if you want your email address or phone number included (one or the other or both please.)

Board News

The Annual Home Owners meeting is scheduled for 3:00 PM September 29th at Les Walshaw’s house (8245 Walden Woods Way again! Thanks Les and Gloria!  The agenda will include topics on the common area, budget, board elections (two positions up for election this year.)

Everyone should have gotten a notice of the meeting now by regular mail.  If you haven’t received one yet, please contact Denese Holden, our president or any Board member.

We need 64 homes represented to have a quorum, otherwise we have to schedule another meeting – consuming association money and our volunteer’s time.  So we very much need you to join us or provide a proxy.  This and next weekend folks will be out soliciting proxies!

CC&Rs

The revised CC&R’s have officially passed.  The final official count was: 74 Yes,  9 No and 1 abstention.  Cindy Fuzie was the official counter or countress!    Paper copies of the new CC&R’s will be handed out at the annual meeting.

The CCR’s are now online here.

Neighborhood Kids Swim Party:

Another example of why Walden Woods is such a friendly place.  Laurel Teague held a swim party for the neighborhood kids on the 10th.  Thanks Laurel!

If anyone else would like to put on a kids event, let me know and I’ll pass the word along.

Water:

You may have received a letter from the PCWA.  This letter is not applicable to Walden Woods Mutual Water Company users.  It is applicable to Wood Rock residents.

Water usage is running about the same as last year.  However we lost a lot of water during the recent water main break.  We’ll see what total usage is for the next month.

Common Area:

This is a marvelous time of year to walk the common area.    Only minutes away and your in our own private woodland.  You can find on the web a map of trails in the common area.

Walden Woods Garage Sale coming up!

Here’s the hassle-free way selling off all the extra stuff you’ve accumulated over the years.  Stephanie Kenney is preparing for the annual Walden Woods Garage Sale.  The Home Owner association will pay for and place advertising in the local papers and Penny Saver.  Several close neighbors often join together so they share the time sitting out with the merchandise or just share time together.

Date:               Saturday, October 12th
Time:
9AM – 1PM

Stephanie has made the signs, but would like find volunteers to help put them out Friday afternoon.  If you can help, please call her at 652-5025.

She’s working on a Monday morning charity pick up for the leftovers – more info on this to follow.

While not required, it would be helpful if you could reply back to let us know if you’re thinking of being part of the Garage Sale – just to get a rough household count.

For more information call Stephanie at 652-5025.

Our Walden Woods Web Page!

With the web so pervasive these days, we simply get used to it, and assume it’s normal and expected to have a web page for our community, but it’s not - most communities don’t have the volunteers that we do.  Remember to thank Chris McAfee for his work as our Walden Woods web master.

Outside Activities:

This section is for ideas homeowners and neighbors for outside activities.  If you think you’ve got a winner, let’s share it.  Pass on tips that help make the event or activity an enjoyable one.

Hiking Trails in Folsom Lake State ParkSome terrific trails exist right near the back entrance to the park.

Directory Updates:

If you didn't get a 2002 Walden Woods Phone Directory, contact Denese Holden at 652-0856.

Get out your pen to make these changes / corrections received in the last two months:

·         Stop by and say hello to our new neighbors at the end of Walden Woods Way.  Lisa and Jared Bogert have moved into the home at 8595 Walden Woods Way (lot 97).  Their home phone is 652-4519

·         Catalina Magdaleno has sold her house at 6490 Vireo Way (lot 4) to Susan and Tom Hall who have moved here from Truckee – no more snow in the winter!  Stop by and welcome them to Walden Woods.  Their number is: 660-0184  That places three Hall families in the neighbor.  No, none related.

·         If you hadn’t heard, we lost a wonderful neighbor – Stan Faustman. Stan and Marion have been Walden Woods neighbors for over 20 years (8305 Parus Way) and have contributed much to our community and we’ll miss him and his wit greatly.

Other changes / corrections received since the directory was published in November and included in prior newsletters:

·         Say hi to our new neighbors, John & Jeanne Gewalt who have moved into the neighborhood, at 8220 Parus Way.  They visited the other Gewalt’s last year and liked the neighborhood.

·         Jeff & Barbara Rogers bought the Schulze’s house at 8265 Walden Woods Way.

·         Greg & Sheri Bomhoff phone number is: 660-0531

·         Please welcome Dave & Judy Vitton to the neighborhood.  They have moved into the former Killingsworth residence at 8190 Parus Way.  Their phone is 652-4396

·         If you see Terri Ryland, ask her about her new exciting job with Government Financial Strategies, Inc, a firm specializing in school district financing (ranging from bond issuances, leases, other long-term financing, developer fee studies, etc.)  She’s working downtown (have her people contact your people and do lunch!)

·         We’re loosing one of our neighbors.  In case you haven't noticed the increased activity at 8220 Parus (lot 20), Mary Low Stone and family have moved.  She sent a nice note saying they enjoyed their time here, but the Ooley’s who rent the house from them decided it was time to sell.  The entry in your directory is under Ooley.

·         Please welcome Gregory & Sheri Bomhoff  at 6620 Stonehedge Ct as new neighbors.

·         Please welcome Thomas & Maureen Higelin at  8665 Woodrock Way as new neighbors.
