If you send me an item, tell me if you want your email address or phone number included (one or the other or both please.)

Message from the Walden
Woods President - Junior Board of Directors
Dear Neighbors:
The Board has often thought of creating a junior board of directors for our community. The intention would be to offer an opportunity for our young people to participate in the community where they live. By addressing issues in our neighborhood that may concern their age group as well as assist the elected board with our challenges and issues, we know it would be a valuable experience in leadership and community involvement. The elected board would solicit and value the junior boards' opinion on different issues such as common area involvement, safety issues, and social events etc. We would also be looking for an adult advisor for this group.
If you have a young person in your household (perhaps 12-18 years of age) that you think might enjoy such a challenge, please discuss this with them. If you would consider being an advisor for the junior board please contact me.
I welcome all questions and discussions, so please feel free to call me. I am home most evenings after 6:30 pm (652-0856). The board would anticipate forming this junior board as soon as we can, so please ask your young people about this challenge as soon as possible and let me know. Thank you!

Watch Volunteers Needed

Common Area:
This is a beautiful time of year to enjoy your common area. It's cooled off, trails are clear of poison oak, and its a nice time for riding bikes, hiking or jogging. If you haven't enjoyed relaxing or watching the sunset at the picnic bench, you're missing a special treat. You can go to the web for a map of the trails
Improvements: Activities have focused on preparing the Common Area for winter. Three vernal pools are being enhanced / created. One on each side of the footbridge on Center Trail and one with a tiny dam along Vernal Pool Pass. Jack Arnold is building a footbridge for the path over the this dam. Other activities include ground preparation for Children's Wildflower Planting Day and removal of debris from trails.
Come pitch in a hand - the next Common Area Improvement Volunteer day is Saturday, Oct 27th, Nov 3rd, Nov 10th and Nov 24th. Show up at Bill Furnas' house (8345 Walden Woods Way) at 9AM.
Joey insisted that his 4 year old birthday party include watching the sunset from the picnic bench on Sunset Hill. It's true! According to mom, he was specific and definite that his birthday party included sunset watching from the picnic bench. So mom took the birthday party gang for a high end up on Sunset hill. Here's a picture of the crew.

Children - Spread Wildflower Seeds In Our Common Area! Saturday Nov. 3rd 2PM
All Walden Woods families are invited to participate! (especially the younger children!) Here's an activity for the entire family Terri Hawkyard is setting up a wildflower planting party / event for the neighborhood children (ages 4 to 10). Bill's scouted out several different areas and matched them to different types of wildflowers seeds. The common area crew has been busy preparing beds for wildflowers and now need families and kids to plant the seeds.
Families should at Bill Furnas' house on the Saturday, Nov 3rd and all the wildflower seeds will be provided. Drinks and snacks will be available for the kids. Let's have a great time meeting other families and spending an afternoon in our private woods.
As a reminder, here's what they looked like last year.
Any parent interested in helping out the activity call Terri at 652-7015.
Printing of next
WWHO Directory
The new Walden Woods Directory will be available imminently. We now have the new board members listed and are just waiting for the Water Board elections so that we can include the correct names on their board. That puts the printing in second half of November. If you have a last minute change to your entry in the directory, rush it to me.
What information is included in the directory?
- Owners First and Last name(s)
- Children living at home in parens
- Street address, lot number
- Fax and normal phone numbers
- email address(es)
Also towards the end of the directory is a list of kids interested in baby sitting, pet sitting, house sitting, yard work, and tutoring.
Wine News - a personal

Thanks to those who bid on the wine. Nadia Burleson and Gary Grenfell where the winners. With Hewlett Packard's donation matching policy, $500 was sent to the Red Cross.
